A man has been seriously injured after he fell around 20ft into a basement in Edinburgh.

The 19-year-old man had to be rescued following the incident at Hill Street Lane North, around 11.45am on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital after rescuers were able to reach him.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh were in attendance on Hill Street Lane North along with other emergency services to help recover a 19-year-old man who had fallen between two buildings.

"He has been conveyed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment."

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
