A man suffered a broken hip in an attack by a gang as he walked home.

The 49-year-old victim was targeted by three men in Whitburn, West Lothian.

He fractured his hip after falling to the ground in the attack on Union Drive.

Police said he underwent surgery on the injury he suffered at around 11.30pm last Monday, before reporting it to the police at the weekend.

Detective constable Krista Tench said: "This appears to have been an unprovoked attack which left the victim with a painful hip injury that required treatment in hospital.

"Our enquiries to identify the suspects are ongoing and anyone who recognises their description, or who saw anything suspicious in Union Street during the early hours of Monday, January 2, should contact police immediately."

The first suspect is described as in his 20s, 5ft 8in with a medium build with dark short messy hair. He was wearing a dark T-shirt with white writing on the front and dark trousers.

Police said the second man was also in his 20s and was around 5ft 10in. He was of medium build, has dark brown hair and was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and dark trousers.

The third suspect is described as 5ft 11in with a medium build and was wearing a dark green hooded top with dark trousers.
