Two people are in hospital after a car careered into a barrier at a busy roundabout in Edinburgh.

The Hyundai Matrix crashed on the A1 at Milton Road in the east of the city shortly before 1pm on Monday.

The driver and his female passenger were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident, which took place east of the junction with Milton Road West.

It is understood the pair were not seriously injured.

Local diversions were put in place, with motorists reporting long tailbacks on the A1.
