CCTV images of three suspects have been released after a man was battered in the street in September.

A 39-year-old man was knocked to the ground and attacked during the incident in Edinburgh on September 24, last year.

The unprovoked attack happened at around 3.30am on South Clerk Street and the victim was left with a serious injury which has "significantly disrupted his daily life since", police say.

They have now released images of three men they are hunting in connection with the incident and urged anyone who recognises them to come forward.

The men were seen in the area of the attack with two young females and officers are keen to speak to the man shown first in the image in particular.

He is described as having dark hair and of larger build, approximately 5ft 8-9in tall and about 18 to 19-years-old. At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey sweatshirt.

Detective Sergeant Adam Brown, from CID at Gayfield Police Station, said: "This was an unprovoked assault which resulted in the victim sustaining an injury with a protracted recovery period and has significantly disrupted his daily life since.

"Anyone who recognises any of the males or who witnessed the assault is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
