A pensioner has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on a busy street.

The 76-year-old man was hit by a silver Mercedes C180 Kompressor around 8.45pm on Tuesday on Niddrie Mains Road in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary however police say his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Officers have spoken with the driver of the car and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident.

Constable Declan Fitzpatrick said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision and who has information that can help us with our inquiries.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101."
