Police have released CCTV images of a man they are hunting in connection with a serious assault in Edinburgh city centre.

The attack took place after a disturbance on a bus travelling along Regent Road in the city on November 25 at 5.30 p.m.

The 27-year-old victim and got off the number 25 Lothian bus with the attacker at the Apple Store on Princes Street where he was assaulted. The man then followed him and assaulted him again on Regents Road, before running off up the steps towards Calton Hill.

Officers believe the man caught on CCTV may be able to assist in their investigation.

Detective sergeant Neil Spowart said: "This was a vicious attack that caused considerable alarm to the victim as well as other members of the public. Given the central location of this incident and the time of day it occurred I'm hopeful that someone has information that can assist us.

"As part of this inquiry we are keen to identify the man pictured in the CCTV footage and he, or anyone who can assist us in identifying him should contact police immediately."
