A social media hunt is on for the owner of a teddy bear left on a train to Edinburgh.

The bear was found at Edinburgh as the train travelled to York on Friday, two days before Christmas.

Andrew McCombie was handed the bear after the previous journey from Plymouth which arrived at the capital earlier that afternoon.

However he could not leave the bear there because the train was pulling away to head back down south.

He believes the owner had been travelling to Scotland but is not sure if Edinburgh was the destination or if there was a crossover to another service heading further north.

Speaking to STV News Andrew said: "I'm one of these people who absolutely loves my job so I always do my best to reunite folk with their bits and bobs.

"A bear is special because you know it belongs to somebody that cherishes it and you want to be able to try and get it back to them.

"I just thought I would put something on Twitter to find the owner and it's just gone completely crazy."

He posted a picture on Twitter about what he found on the service he was working on and it was retweeted more than 1000 times.

The toy made the return journey back to England with Andrew posting updates on the way to York including one from Newcastle.

Whoever the owner of the bear is has been asked to contact CrossCountry directly rather than through staff at the lost and found office in Edinburgh Waverley.

When the owner is reunited with the bear, there will be some stories to tell at least...
