A man was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after being violently attacked outside a rugby club car park.
The 25-year-old was standing next to his parked car outside Linlithgow Rugby Club, at around 11pm on Saturday, when he was approached from behind by another man.
The attacker punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, and then repeatedly kicked him.
Following the assault, the victim made his way into Linlithgow town centre to get help.
The attacker is described as white, in his forties, of stocky build, around 5ft 10in and with short dark hair.
He was clean-shaven with facial acne scarring, spoke with a local accent, was wearing a dark knitted style hooded top with fleece lining and had with him two Boxer style dogs, one dark coloured and the other pure white coloured.
The attacker was also driving a light blue Ford Focus.
Detective constable Jo McCall, of Livingston CID, said: "This was an extremely violent attack that left the man seriously injured and hospitalised with significant facial injuries.
"We are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing anything suspicious, or the victim walking injured through Linlithgow, to contact police immediately.
"In addition, anyone who may have seen the suspect, or who recognises his description is also asked to get in touch."
