A man and two women have been taken to hospital with major injuries after a smash between a van and a car on the A71.

Four ambulance crews and a specialist trauma team were sent from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the crash on Friday afternoon.

The collision happened west of the Lizzie Bryce roundabout near Dedgridge, West Lothian, at around 1.40pm.

A man his 20s, who was driving the van, and two women in the other vehicle, one in their 60s, were taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with "serious injuries".

Police are currently at the scene and the road has been closed to traffic eastbound from Newpark roundabout, Livingston, and westbound at the Lizzie Bryce roundabout.

The road is expected to be shut for several hours while collision investigators examine the scene.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to call police 101.
