A young man has died following a crash between two vehicles in the Borders.

The 24-year-old's Ford Focus collided with a Renault Traffic van on the A698 Kelso to Denholm road.

The crash tok place around 9.20pm on Saturday near to Knowesouth Steading.

Police closed the road for several hours as an investigation was carried out.

Officers now wish to speak to anyone who saw the crash or was on the road at the time.

Road policing sergeant Andy Gibb said: "Sadly this collision has resulted in a young man losing his life and we would like to ascertain the full circumstances of the collision.

"Anyone with information that can assist us is asked to contact officers on 101."
