Thief caught with stolen goods after toppling into canal
Police were called after the man fell off his bike into the Union Canal in Edinburgh.
A thief was caught with £18,000 of stolen property after he crashed his bike into a canal.
Police were called to help the man after he veered into the Union Canal in Edinburgh at the weekend.
When officers were checking him over, they found he was been carrying stolen items worth around £18,000.
Police said the man was later charged and the property was "reunited with the rightful owners".
In a tongue-in-cheek post on the Edinburgh Division social media page, officers said: "Luckily for the cyclist, he was able to get out of the canal unharmed and with most of his belongings intact.
