A man had his wallet stolen after being attacked by three teenagers beside the Union Canal in Edinburgh.

The victim was walking along the towpath under Cultins Road, towards Hermiston Gait, when he was assaulted on Tuesday at 6.50pm.

The teenagers confronted him and when he carried on walking, they pushed him over and stole his wallet.

They ran back along the towpath towards the main road before they were lost to sight.

Detective constable Kevin Walls from Corstorphine CID said: "Fortunately the man only suffered minor facial injuries but was extremely shaken by this unprovoked attack.

"The area would still have been busy with traffic on the A71 at this time of the evening and I want to speak to anyone who was walking or driving in the area and may have seen the group of youths."

The robbers are all described as white teenage boys, with two around 5ft 8in and a third 6ft.

The first was wearing a beanie hat, dark zipped top, grey jogging bottoms and dark trainers with white soles.

The second was wearing a dark blue Umbro top, blue dirty or faded jeans and dark trainers. The third was wearing a dark hooded top, dark jogging bottoms and gloves.
