A man has been charged with the murder of a three-month-old baby girl found injured at a homeless unit in West Lothian.

Sophia Williams was taken to hospital on May 30 after taking unwell at the Strathbrock family unit, a homelessness facility in Broxburn, West Lothian.

The baby was treated by staff at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh but passed away on June 5.

Following an extensive police inquiry, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were arrested in connection with her death on Thursday.

On Friday, Traherne Williams, 21, appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court charged with her murder.

He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.

An 18-year-old woman did not appear in court and was released from custody pending further inquiries.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning an 18-year-old woman in connection with an alleged incident said to have occurred on 30th May 2016.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, she was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court.

"The case against her remains live and under consideration."
