Two men were robbed during a "shocking" attack at a shopping centre in Edinburgh city centre.

The two victims, aged 20 and 26, were targeted near the tourist information centre in Princes Mall.

At around 9.15pm on Wednesday, a group of around three men and two women demanded they hand over cash.

When the 26-year-old man refused, he was punched in the head and had a three-figure sum taken from him.

The 20-year-old was struck in the face and his bag, which had a phone and a three-figure sum of cash in it, was stolen.

Both men were left injured, with the 26-year-old victim needing treatment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

One of the attackers had "Made in Poland" tattooed on the back of his neck and was aged between 17 and 19.

He was wearing a dark jumper with a white logo on the front, grey bottoms and a black woollen hat with the badge of Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Another suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 9in with short fair hair and of slim build.

He is 18 or 19 and was wearing a light grey Nike hooded top with matching bottoms and black Nike trainers.

There were no details of the other attackers.

Detective constable Ryan Lee of Gayfield CID said: "This was a shocking attack on two men and we're appealing for the public's help as part of our investigation.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or recognises the description of the suspects, is urged to get in touch."
