A police investigation has been launched after a body was found in a Fife park.

It is understood a member of the public made the discovery on Headwell Park, off Headwell Road in Dunfermline early on Wednesday.

An area of the park was sealed off by police while they made inquiries into the circumstances of the death.

A police spokeswoman said inquiries were at an early stage and the identity of the person would not be released until family were informed.

She said: "Police in Fife were called to Headwell Road in Dunfermline around 7.30am on Wednesday following the discovery of a body.

"Officers are currently working to trace next of kin and inquiries into the death are ongoing."
