Kilted sex attacker was wearing Dropkick Murphys hoodie
Police release new description of man after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted in Edinburgh.
A man wanted over a sexual assault on a 19-year-old woman in Edinburgh was wearing a "distinctive" punk band hoodie, according to police.
Officers investigating the attack in Salisbury Place at the weekend said a new witness had come forward and provided a fresh description of the man.
He is described as around 30, white, 6ft, of large build, with dark hair and wearing a distinctive dark grey hooded top with the motif of American band Dropkick Murphys.
He was also wearing a dark kilt and dark boots covering his calves.
Detectives returned to the scene of the "terrifying" attack on Tuesday to launch a new appeal for information after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted as she walked home after getting off a bus.
She managed to fight the man off, who was last seen heading in the direction of Minto Street at around 3am on Sunday.
Police said the assailant was spotted earlier on Saturday evening at a takeaway on Marchmont Road some time between 7pm and 9pm.
He was also seen walking from the city centre southwards along Newington Road, towards Salisbury Place.
Detective inspector Donnie MacLeod said: "Since the attack took place we have been conducting various inquiries in and around Salisbury Place to trace witnesses and establish the movements of the suspect before and after the incident.
"We are now satisfied that he was within the Marchmont area on Saturday evening before carrying out the attack, during which time he walked towards Salisbury Place from the direction of the city centre.
"I would ask anyone who believes they may have seen this individual on Saturday night, or the early hours of Sunday morning, or who knows where we can find him should contact police immediately.
"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch."
Officers are to continue conducting door to door inquiries in the area throughout Tuesday evening.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
