Controlled explosion carried out at Murrayfield Stadium
Safety training exercise takes place at the national rugby ground in Edinburgh.
A controlled explosion has been carried out at Murrayfield Stadium as part of a training exercise.
Residents around the national rugby ground in Edinburgh reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a large plume of smoke.
Police, firefighters and the ambulance service were in attendance for the safety exercise on Tuesday morning.
Residents said they felt the ground shake during the explosion.
Alex Robertson, who lives nearby, told STV News he heard a bang echoing around the stadium.
"It sounded like someone had slammed a huge metal door," he said.
"All the garage workers on Roseburn Street had stopped to watch the smoke cloud rising out of the stadium."
A Scottish Rugby spokesman said: "It was a pre-planned training exercise as part of our annual safety certificate."
