Police searching for a missing Scots RAF serviceman are appealing for information to trace his mobile phone.

Corrie McKeague, 23, of Dunfermline in Fife, disappeared ten days ago after going on a night out with friends.

He was last seen on CCTV walking alone eating fast food in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, at around 3.20am on Saturday, September 24.

Officers investigating his disappearance seized a bin lorry they thought may contain his phone but confirmed on Tuesday it had not been found.

Suffolk Police said Mr McKeague's Nokia Lumia 435 phone is thought to have been in a black PVC leather case which was frayed and worn around the edges.

They confirmed they are trying to locate the phone, which work so far suggests may have been in Bury St Edmunds early on September 24, before moving to the Barton Mills area nearby.

Superintendent Kim Warner said: "We would like to thank all those who have spoken to us and assisted with the inquiry to date, however, we still need anyone who can help to come forward.

"If you were out in the Bury, Honington or Barton Mills area between Friday night and Saturday and saw Corrie we need to speak to you.

"He was wearing distinctive light clothing - a pink polo shirt and white jeans or trousers - and was friendly and engaging with a number of people during the course of the evening.

"While we're particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him after 3.20am on Saturday, September 24, we also need to talk to you if you saw him during the evening.

"Our key appeal is for anyone with information that may help to come forward as soon as possible."

On Monday, Mr McKeague's mother Nicola Urquhart issued a public appeal for anyone with information about where her son may be to contact police.

She said her son would "never, never" be out of contact with his family for so long. He had spoken to his brother four times the day before he went missing.

Mr McKeague, a gunner in Number Two Squadron, based at Honington, has been in the RAF for three years and "loves" his work, Mrs Urquhart added.

Police have searched the Bury St Edmonds area with a helicopter in recent days but have not found any new information relating Mr McKeague's position.

Mr McKeague was reported as missing to police last Monday afternoon.

He is 5ft 10in, of medium build, with short light brown hair and was wearing a light pink shirt and white jeans or trousers at the time he was last seen.

Anyone with information relating to Mr McKeague's whereabouts is asked to contact the police on 101.
