Search steps up for Scots RAF gunner missing for a week
Corrie McKeague, from Fife, was last seen in Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, last Saturday.
Police are stepping up the search for a Scots RAF serviceman who went missing after a night out with friends a week ago.
Corrie McKeague was last seen on CCTV in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, at around 3.20am on Saturday September 24.
The 23-year-old gunner, from Fife, is seen to briefly sleep in a doorway before getting up and walking off.
Officers believe he may have tried to walk home to RAF Honington, which is almost three hours away on foot.
Since his disappearance the National Police Air Service helicopter and the Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue have been assisting the police in searching the area between the RAF base and Bury St Edmunds.
Officers will be stepping up ground searches over the weekend.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Constabulary said on Friday: "Officers have been continuing to look between Bury St Edmunds and Honington and over the weekend these ground searches will be expanded.
"Officers are also continuing to go through CCTV footage in a bid to find any sightings that may take the investigation forward.
"Police are continuing to ask anyone who may have spoken to him during last Friday evening and in the time up to 3.20am, and anyone who may have seen him after the last confirmed sighting in Brentgovel Street around 3.20am on Saturday to come forward."
He is white, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, with short light brown hair and was wearing a light pink shirt and white trousers at the time he was last seen.
His mother Nicola Urquhart, 48, has posted his photo on Facebook and appealed for people to share it in the hope it will help find her son.
Mr McKeague has not been in contact with his family, something they say is out of character.
Police say he is known to try and walk home after nights out regardless of distance.
Anyone who has seen him or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the duty sergeant at Bury St Edmunds on 101.
