The arrival of a little bundle of joy into the world is a special day for any family.

This was certainly the case for mother Stacy Downie when she had the first cuddle with her little girl Orla Doris Ann Downie earlier this month.

Born on September 2 at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Orla's addition had an extra special significance as she took her place as the fifth generation female in the family.

Stacy says Orla's great-great grandmother Agnes Gedrim was delighted to meet the family's new baby girl, with a 95 year gap between the pair.

It was a special moment for all the family to watch, with 64-year-old great-grandmother Doris Downie, 41-year-old grandmother Vivenne Downie and 24-year-old mum Stacy all having all had that same loving cuddle from Agnes when they were babies.

Sharing a close family bond, Stacy says her family have always lived close to one another with the five generations based between Dunfermline, Townhill and High Valleyfield.

Her mum and gran were even there to support Stacy at the birth, with mum Vivienne cutting Orla's cord.

And while this has the perk of having plenty of babysitters to hand, Stacy says there is always a line of family members waiting to meet and spoil little Orla with love.

"The only time I get her is at nights when we are going to bed," Stacy says. "We are really close to one another.

"We are really lucky that we have managed to get all five together because it is a rare thing to happen.

"We never expected at all to have the five generations of girls."

Stacy's first-born Tyler has also fallen for his little sister's charm with the five-year-old thinking up every excuse to spend time with his baby sister.

"He totally loves her to bits as well," Stacy says.

"He is trying to dodge school just now to stay at home with her."

Thankfully Orla is taking all of the attention in her stride, with the family already planning the next big holiday get together.

"We all spend Christmas together," Stacy says.

"I usually stay with my mum on Christmas so we are all together for the morning then my gran and my nana will be coming over and having Christmas dinner with us as well."

"Orla is absolutely brilliant," she adds.

"During the day she is a bit of a diva but I can't complain because at night, she is absolutely brilliant."

Diva or not, Orla has plenty of doting fans with gran Vivienne saying her birth has been extra special for them all, especially for Agnes who has been in Matthew Fyfe Care Home since May.

"I am over the moon that we have actually got the five generations in my family and my nana is still here to see it all.

"She was quite speechless. She was in a daze not talking to anyone else and just concentrating on Orla the whole time.

"They all know about Orla [at Matthew House] and we've had her there already and they have all seen her."

Vivienne adds: "I can stand back and see my own kids having a family now and be there and support.

"We are just a very close family network."
