A man has appeared in court over an alleged hit-and-run in Edinburgh which left two people injured.

Mateusz Podolak, 30, appeared in private on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday following the incident on Captain's Road, Gracemount, on July 14.

Podolak, who lives in Edinburgh, faces a variety of road traffic charges, including causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He was also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

A 41-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both of whom were pedestrians, were taken to hospital following the incident.

Podolak made no plea or declaration during the brief court hearing.

The case was committed for further examination and he was remanded in custody.
