Elderly woman forced to withdraw cash from ATM in robbery
The 81-year-old was targeted on York Place, Edinburgh, on Thursday afternoon.
An elderly woman was robbed of a three-figure sum of cash after being forced to withdraw it from an ATM.
The 81-year-old had just taken money out of a cash machine on Picardy Place in Edinburgh and was walking along York Place when she was approached by a woman near the Conan Doyle pub.
The woman forced her to go back to the ATM to take out more money, before fleeing the scene.
Two men helped the pensioner out before reporting the incident to police.
Officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident on Thursday at around 4.45pm.
The suspect is believed to be around 30 years. She was described as around 5ft 2in with olive skin and a stocky build.
She was wearing a green anorak and black trousers, with a white scarf over her head.
Detective constable Alison Wyllie said: "This was a brazen attack in broad daylight at the start of rush hour.
"We're looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this, or perhaps noticed the suspect leading the victim to the ATM.
"It's also possible someone may remember a woman who matches the description of the suspect watching the victim before the robbery took place."
