Peregrine falcon eggs have been stolen from a nest in the Scottish Borders, prompting fears they will be sold on the black market.

The eggs were taken from a nest in the Jedburgh area at the beginning of May.

Officers have been working to track down the thieves but have so far drawn a blank.

Constable Jamie Hood, wildlife liaison officer in the Lothians and Scottish Borders, said: "The impact that egg theft can have on our native species threatens the long-term sustainability of these birds.

"We expect that these may have been stolen to be sold on the black market, and I would urge people who live and work in the countryside to be vigilant in reporting suspicious behaviour to us.

"I would also ask anyone who has information about this incident, or any other wildlife crime, to call Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
