A 16-year-old boy has been charged over an "extremely violent" attack which left a man with serious head injuries.

The incident took place outside the Right Medicine Pharmacy in High Street, Haddington, East Lothian, at around 3.30pm on Sunday.

The teenager has been charged but officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened.

The victim, who is in his 20s, is being treated for a serious head injury at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

Detective Sergeant Ian Campbell of Dalkeith CID: "This was an extremely violent attack carried out in broad daylight in a busy part of town and I ask anyone who was in the area to contact police immediately."
