A Mercedes driver with a fake licence plate fled the scene of a crash that left another car badly damaged.

The black car collided with a parked Ford Focus on Thymebank in Livingston on Wednesday between 8.45am and 9am.

Both vehicles "bounced" into the air and the Ford Focus landed in bushes on the roadside verge.

The Mercedes driver sped from the scene of the collision and police have been unable to track him down.

A licence plate with the registration E18 MDR was found at the crash site. Officers believe that the number plate is fake.

The driver is described as being a white man in his late 20s with short black hair and a slim build.

Police constable James Addison said: "The parked Ford Focus sustained considerable damage and I believe the suspect vehicle would be as badly damaged, specifically to its front nearside area.

"We are looking to speak to anyone who saw this collision and who may have information that can assist with our inquiries.
