Body recovered from river identified as missing pensioner

A body pulled from a river at the weekend has been identified as missing pensioner Thomas Davidson.
The 73-year-old was reported missing after failing to return to his sheltered housing home in Dalkeith, Midlothian, on Tuesday.
His body was discovered in the River North Esk by a passing member of the public who raised the alarm with police shortly before 6.30pm on Friday.
Fire, police and ambulance crews were assisted by up to eight divers in the recovery operation in Ironmills Park.
In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Davidson's family said: "We wish to thank the local community and police for their understanding and support at this very sad time.
"We also wish to be left alone and be given the privacy needed to grieve."
Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: "Our sympathies are with the family of Thomas Davidson and we wish to extend our gratitude to them for their assistance over the course of our search operation.
"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who assisted with our inquiries."
Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Davidson's death.
