Hibernian fan jailed after invading pitch at Edinburgh derby
Ryan Munro has also been banned from all football matches for 18 months.
A lifelong Hibernian fan who celebrated his team's victory in an Edinburgh derby by invading the pitch has been jailed for four months and banned from all football matches.
Ryan Munro had previously admitted committing a breach of the peace at the Scottish Cup fifth round replay between Hibernian and city rivals Heart of Midlothian at Easter Road Stadium on February 16.
Fiscal depute Kirsty Lyon told Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday that the incident was not close to the Hearts supporters as Munro had been taken away by stewards immediately afterwards.
The 30-year-old's defence solicitor, Sarah Quinn, described Munro's actions as "utter stupidity".
She said: "He is deeply embarrassed by his actions. It was caused by his excitement at his team, who he has supported since he was a boy, knocking Heart of Midlothian out of the cup."
Ms Quinn said the "impulsive and stupid act" lasted only a few seconds.
She said Munro, who was a season ticket holder at Easter Road, had not been to a game since the offence.
Sheriff John Beckett said Munro had "a terrible criminal record" and was on a community payback order at the time.
He sentenced Munro to four months in prison and handed him a 16-month ban from all football matches.
The sheriff told Munro: "For someone with your criminal record to behave in this way was crass stupidity.
"Fortunately, it was nipped in the bud very quickly and the reaction of the opposing fans was limited."
