A pair of teenagers have appeared in court following an attack on a man outside a shop in Fife.

The 22-year-old was assaulted outside the Premier Stores on Francis Street in Lochgelly on Saturday night.

He was treated for his injuries at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where he was said to be in a stable condition.

The two youths, both of Lochgelly, appeared in private at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Tuesday following the incident.

Keiran McAlpine, 19, was charged with assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder when he appeared at the petition hearing.He was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The second teenager, a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both made no plea or declaration and the case was continued. They were released on bail and will next appear in court at a later date.
