A woman has been charged over a fake charity collection scam in Musselburgh.

Police in East Lothian launched an investigation after members of the public became suspicious of a female claiming to be raising funds by doing a swim challenge.

Following information from the local community, the 42-year-old was detained on Sunday, April 24, and will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

Constable Donald Kettrick said: "Thanks to our information appeal being carried in local media we received information from the public, which allowed us to charge a woman in connection with these offences.

"I would like to thank the community for their assistance and would urge anyone with any information relating to ongoing crime in their area to contact us immediately so it can be appropriately investigated."
