A 13-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a taxi in the west side of Edinburgh.

The incident happened at around 12.35pm on Saturday afternoon on St John's Road, Corstorphine, just outside the Tanz tanning salon.

The boy sustained injuries to his legs after he was hit by a black taxi and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

So far it is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening.

Local officers and the Road Policing Unit cordoned off the area for just over two hours in order to conduct further investigations, but have now reopened the road.

Inspector Davie Ferguson from Corstorphine Police Station said: "As part of our ongoing inquiries we are keen to hear from any motorists or members of the public who witnessed this incident and I would urge them to contact police immediately should they have any information."
