A baby found seriously injured in a house in Fife has died.
Five-month-old Hayley Davidson passed away at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh on Wednesday afternoon.
She had been under the care of medics since Sunday after local police were called to a property on West High Street, Buckhaven, at around 12:30pm following a report of concern for a child.
In a statement issued through Police Scotland, her family said: "Hayley is a beautiful baby girl who was loved by everyone who met her and we, as a family, wish to be left alone to grieve at this difficult and trying time.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A thorough and rigorous investigation is ongoing as officers progress with inquiries into Hayley's death. A post mortem examination is to be arranged."
Chief inspector Adrian Annandale added: "This is an extremely tragic and sensitive case and I'd like to reassure Hayley’s family as well as the wider community that we’re conducting a robust investigation and appreciate the assistance provided."
