Rapist who kidnapped schoolgirl in 32-hour ordeal is jailed
Mark Armstrong repeatedly raped and battered the 15-year-old as she returned from netball.
A man who kidnapped a 15-year-old girl and repeatedly raped and battered her over 32 hours has been jailed and given a lifelong restriction order.
Mark Armstrong abducted the girl as she walked home from netball practice and warned her that he had a flick knife and would use it if she tried to run away or scream.
The 26-year-old raped her in the grounds of a derelict cottage in Dunfermline, Fife before leading her back to his home and continuing to rape her.
The victim later said it happened "over and over again".
Armstrong, from Dunfermline, previously admitted abducting, assaulting and raping the girl between March 12 and 14 last year.
He also pled guilty to a string of assault and robbery offences committed against women in the days leading up to the attack on the teenager.
He was sentenced to prison and placed on the sex offenders register at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.
He was given a four-year jail term as the "punishment" part of his sentence, however he was also given a lifelong restriction order.
This means that he will only be eligible for release from prison when he is no longer considered to be a danger to the public.
Lady Wise described Armstrong as "cruel, depraved and inhumane" but praised the victim for her "bravery and resilience". She said the long term impact on the young girl was not yet known.
She told him: "You should be clear that there is no absolutely no assumption or expectation that you will be released at the end of that period. You will be released only when it is considered no longer necessary for the protection of the public that you continue to be confined in prison."
An earlier court hearing heard that Armstrong told the terrified girl what to do and to “shut up or stop shivering”.
He later took her back to the derelict cottage after saying she could go home, before taking her back to his house to rape her again.
The girl’s mother reported her missing and police searched the cottage at Kingseat Road. They found her T-shirt, bra and broken glasses.
Only hours later did Armstrong finally free the girl and return her phone.
The girl later told police: "I just wanted to call my mum."
She had injuries to her face that left her unrecognisable.
The victim led police to Armstrong's house and identified him from images.
Following the sentence, Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Johnson said: "Mark Armstrong is a depraved individual who targeted his victims and ultimately put one through a terrifying ordeal.
"It is due the courage and the bravery of Armstrong's 15-year-old victim that he has been brought to justice. It is not an overstatement to say she cracked the case for officers, and as an organisation Police Scotland pays tribute to her maturity and resolve.
"We hope that this sentence will allow Armstrong's victims, and their families, to move forward and rebuild their lives."
