Woman saved from car after driving through 4ft flood is charged
The 47-year-old was rescued from her submerged Volkswagen Polo by emergency services near Peebles.
A woman has been charged with careless driving after attempting to steer her Volkswagen Polo through 4ft-high flood water.
Borders Police issued a warning to drivers after the 47-year-old woman became the second person to be charged with careless driving in relation to flooded roads in the past month.
A police spokesman said that at around 1pm on Wednesday, the woman tried to drive on the B712 road at Stobo, near Peebles.
Her car became trapped and emergency services had to be called to rescue her.
The police, fire service, ambulance service and local mountain rescue team all worked to remove the woman from her half-submerged car.
Inspector John Scott said: "This is the second incident in December of someone being charged for ignoring road closure signs in the Borders.
"Ignoring these not only risks your own safety, but that of emergency services personnel who will be required to rescue you. It also prevents these vital resources from being able to help other people.
"Please remember that road closures are always in place for a reason. There are no excuses for ignoring these and if you fail to comply, you will be charged.
"If you're in an area affected by flooding, do not travel unless absolutely necessary. If you need to travel, plan your route in advance and check Traffic Scotland or the Scottish Borders Council website for road closures."
