Flooding is expected to hit parts of Scotland as rain and high winds batter the country.

A warning for rain is in place for areas including Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway until 4am on Friday.

A further warning for rain and wind has been put in place for Perthshire and Stirlingshire from 1pm until midnight on Friday.

Flooding is expected to hit homes, roads and fields throughout the day, with up to 60mm of rain possible in some spots of the south west.

STV weather presenter Sean Batty said: "More heavy rain will spread in from the west on Friday night, which will move east across most of the country into Saturday morning.

"This again could lead flooding issues, although impacts expected to be minor.

"The areas at risk of flooding into Saturday will be across Aberdeenshire, Angus, Perthshire, southern Highlands, Stirlingshire, Argyll, Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

"Western Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire, inland Aberdeenshire and Angus are the spots at highest risk."

Strong winds are also expected on Friday, hitting areas across the Northern Isles, Hebrides, north east coast and the west coast.

Sean added: "The winds will slowly ease during Saturday. The winds will likely have an impact on ferry timetables and you can expect some bridge restrictions.

"Winds will also give rise to large waves, which could bring a risk of overtopping in a few locations, but any impacts are expected to be minor.

"The areas mainly at risk are around Solway, Firth of Clyde, parts of the north west coast, Orkney, Moray and Caithness.

"Longer term, the weather will remain changeable next week, but there are some tentative signs that it may settle a bit more later in the month."
