There are slides and then there's this - a new festival helter skelter experience has officially opened in Edinburgh.

Built as part of the annual Edinburgh Festival celebrations, the "Sip and Slide" is a twisty fibreglass attraction built onto the city's Assembly Rooms on George Street.

Although it doesn't have a bar at the top as originally intended, it does have a rather lovely view of the New Town and plenty of bars on offer at ground level instead which organisers say was "the more sensible" option.

Customers are invited to climb to the top then zoom down for a £2 fee and it is now open to the public until August 25 and will run daily from 11am until 11pm.

The ride will be open to families during the day so STV reporter Vanessa Kennedy popped along to give it a go - press play above to see it in action.

William Burdett-Coutts, Director of Assembly Festival said: "It's a pretty extraordinary construct...it fits appealingly with what we do at the festival.

"The concept originally was that you would have a bar on the top, but we've decided that would not be a good idea, so you can now have a drink at ground level which we think is the sensible idea.

"It's great fun and that is the point of the festival - everyone is there to enjoy themselves."
