A woman filming a storm in the Borders caught her near-miss with a lightning bolt on camera.

Tracey Kutluol was leaning out of her living-room window during the shocking incident at 10pm on Thursday night.

The 43-year-old said she felt an electric charge when the bolt struck a short distance from her home.

It left her with a tingling sensation in her arm but she believes her rubber iPhone case helped absorb some of the shock.

Lightning is extremely dangerous and a can cause severe burns, nerve damage and even death.

"I was trying to film how dark it was and hoping for a little lightning that I could capture but I did not anticipate that it would hit me," Tracey said.

"I was not hurt and all the kids and my friend who were with me were all fine.

"My kitchen light bulb managed to blow up though."

Tracey urged anyone considering trying to film lightning to think again.

"I just want to raise awareness for anyone who plans on doing what I did," she said.

"Please be careful out there as it can happen to anyone."
