A 20ft blimp showing Donald Trump as a baby could fly over Turnberry golf course in Ayrshire.

Police Scotland have been asked for permission to fly the helium balloon - dubbed 'Trump Baby' - over the course, where the US President is expected to play on Saturday.

The giant effigy has already been given the green light to fly in London's Parliament Square when Mr Trump arrives on Friday.

London mayor Sadiq Khan granted permission for nappy-clad blimp after campaigners raised £16,000 to pay for it.

Now more than 6000 people have signed a petition urging Police Scotland's deputy chief constable to give them flight clearance at the course, which will have an aerial exclusion zone around it during the president's visit.

Mr Trump is due to touch down in Scotland on Friday night before travelling on to Turnberry, the famous resort he bought in 2014.

Police say they are aware of the petition but were unable to comment further.

The petition , launched by Martin Keatings, reads: "You've all heard about the Trump Baby Blimp to be flown in London.

"Well, Trump is coming to Scotland and protesters going to Turnberry have managed to secure the blimp to fly in the area around Turnberry.

"Due to the airspace restrictions in place for Trump's visit, the protesters are seeking flight clearance to fly the blimp near the president on his visit to Scotland.

"Police on the ground will allow it with the authorisation of pertinent parties. Emails have been sent to the Chief of Police in Scotland, National Air Traffic Control, the Civil Aviation Authority and the First Minister.

"The purpose of this petition is to provide the link to these authorities to show that there is clear and substantive public interest in it flying as is the protesters right pursuant to the rights of Freedom of Assembly and of Association and the right to protest peacefully in a manner of their choosing under the European Convention on Human Rights and the Human Rights Act 1998.

"We ask everyone to sign to support the immediate authorisation of clearance in the limited timescale before Trumps Visit this weekend."
