Dundee legend Alan Gilzean has passed away aged 79.

The striker - capped 22 times by Scotland - had been battling a brain tumour.

Gilzean is one of the most famous players in the Dens Park club's history as he led the line when they won their only league title in 1962.

He scored over 100 goals for Dundee and was part of the side which reached the last four of the European Cup and the 1964 Scottish Cup final.

After his success in Scotland, the striker moved to England, where he made 433 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 133 goals.

At Tottenham, he won the 1967 FA Cup, the Uefa Cup in 1972 and two League Cups.

Dundee paid tribute to their former player: "Everyone at Dundee Football Club are devastated to learn that club legend Alan Gilzean passed away this morning after recently being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

"The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Alan's family and friends at this difficult time."

Spurs added: "Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our legendary former striker Alan Gilzean.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
