Scotland is set to break more records with temperatures potentially rising to more than 32C.

There is also a chance the country could experience its warmest ever day, beating 32.9C set in August 2003.

Aviemore had the highest temperature on Wednesday at 31.3C as Scots enjoyed their hottest June weather since 1995.

Other areas including Bishopton, Aboyne, Oban and Kinloss also had their warmest June day.

Eskdalemuir in Dumfries and Galloway also had its hottest day of the month for 108 years.

STV weather presenter Sean Batty expects Thursday to be the warmest day of the week, with a series of records being broken.

He said: "After some extreme heat yesterday, Thursday could be even hotter especially across central and western Scotland where temperatures will rise above 30C in a number of locations.

"On Wednesday, several places in Scotland experienced their hottest June on record."

Sean added: "I expect local temperature records to be broken across Stirlingshire, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire and perhaps inland parts of Ayrshire.

"The highest temperature ever recorded in Scotland was 32.9C in August 2003 Greycrook in the Scottish Borders.

"There is a small chance this all time record could be broken."

Rail disruption has already been caused due to the warm weather.

Trains have been cancelled between Bathgate and Edinburgh due to high track temperatures.

ScotRail said disruption is expected to last until 7pm.

Police have also warned of the dangers of going into water including quarries.

Officers warned: "Some quarry lakes may look inviting on a hot summer's day, but there are a number of hidden dangers.

"Deep water, submerged abandoned machinery and car wrecks, underwater recesses, hidden currents, dead animals and pollution."

The message added: "More dangers of quarry swimming are sheer faces, falling rocks, quick sand, and believe it or not hypothermia - despite the weather, water deeper than a few inches will be cold enough to cause cold shock."
