One person has been injured as firefighters continue to contain a substantial wildfire on the grass of Edinburgh's iconic Arthur's Seat.

Emergency services were called to reports of a large area of grass on fire around 50 metres from the hill's summit at around 1.40pm on Sunday.

Images and video posted on social media shows smoke rising into the sky from the city landmark, including drone footage live-streamed by a Scots YouTube vlogger.

Three fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze and crews remain in attendance.

One casualty was taken into the care of paramedics with a suspected leg injury.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 1.40pm on Sunday, May 20 to reports of a large area of grass on fire near Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised six fire engines to the scene and firefighters are working to contain and extinguish the flames.

"One casualty, suffering from a suspected leg injury, was assisted to a place of safety before they were transferred into the care of paramedics.

"Crews currently remain on the scene."It comes as the fire service announced an increased risk of wildfires in Scotland this weekend following a major blaze in Caithness.

A fire service spokeswoman added crews were likely to remain at the landmark through the night to make sure the blaze does not spread.
