At least 64 people have been killed and others are still missing after a fire at a shopping centre in Russia.

Many of the dead are feared to be children, according to officials.

The fire at the four-storey Winter Cherry mall in the Siberian city of Kemerovo was extinguished on Monday morning after burning all night.

"More bodies were discovered during the inspection of the scene," Deputy Emergencies Minister Vladlen Aksyonov said, according to Russian state news agency Tass.

Eleven bodies were reportedly found in the shopping centre's cinema, where floors had caved in in places.

Parts of the building were still smouldering on Monday morning.

The cause of Sunday's fire is not yet clear, but it is reported that it began in the top floor of the building. A criminal investigation is underway.

The shopping centre, which opened in 2013, has a cinema, petting zoo, children's centre and bowling, Tass reported.

Kemerovo is an industrial city around 3,600km (2,200 miles) east of Moscow.
