It was a night of pure bearded decadence.

Scotland's annual beard and moustache championship was held for the second time last weekend after its debut in Glasgow last year.

And what a gathering of resplendent facial hair it was.

Hairy competitors from across the country and beyond gathered to compare their winsome whiskers, with some entries as far afield as America and Austria making the journey.

From carefully waxed upper lip creations to luxuriously oiled face fur, the great and good of the bearded world descended on Glasgow for a sell-out night.

Categories once again included Best Moustache, Best Beard over Four Inches and, of course, Best Ginger Beard.

Special mention this time round has to go to a particularly talented lady who rocked her very own beard creation made entirely out of Lego.

It even had its very own bearded Lego man in a kilt and holding a beer bottle included in the design.

"This thing was impressive, she definitely won that round," says John Jackson, founder of Braw Beard Oils, organiser of the event and fellow bearded man.

"The amount of work that went into that was incredible."

John launched Scotland's first ever major beard and moustache championship last year and was delighted when they attracted 60 competitors and sold out their event tickets.

This year, the event nearly doubled, with more than 100 entries and an incredible 300 tickets sold.

"We had entries from Germany, Austria and even Portland in America," says a delighted John.

It was the two entries from America which were especially exciting - especially when one of them got in touch ahead of time with John to ask for an extra special favour.

"James told me he was flying over with his girlfriend and he wanted to surprise her with a marriage proposal during the event," says John. "We were happy to help."

The pair - both wearing beards - got a loud roar of approval from the Scots when the lady said yes.

"The room just erupted," laughs John. "It was a great moment."

The event has done so well, John is proud to confirm that it will return once again in 2019, on February 23 at the Drygate in Glasgow.

Tickets officially go on sale today and he says he is thrilled to be able to welcome everyone back again.

"Categories will be roughly the same and hopefully we'll have a lot more international competitors," he says.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support, it has been phenomenal to see the community grow.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you all again next year."
