Fears are growing for a partially-sighted man who has been missing since Monday.

Robert Boyle, 58, from Westray Avenue, Port Glasgow, was last seen at the town's railway station boarding the 5.23pm train to Glasgow Central.

He has not been in touch with family or friends since and police are now appealing for the public's assistance to help find him.

Mr Boyle is white, 6ft tall and of a medium build. When last seen he was wearing a black Nike jacket, white T-shirt, blue jeans, black Slazenger backpack and white trainers.

He uses a white stick as a walking aid and wears black wraparound glasses.

Sergeant Emma Downie, from Greenock Police Office, said: "Around 5pm yesterday evening, Robert said to his wife he was heading out and he got a taxi to Port Glasgow train station where the taxi driver assisted him on to the train. He is seen on CCTV at Glasgow Central station around 6pm but it is not know where he headed to from there.

"We know that he did take a change of clothes with him, but he did not indicate that he was going to be away for more than a few hours when he said he was going out which, according to his family, is not like him at all as he usually won't go out without his wife.

"Officers have spoken to friends and family but so far he has not been in touch with anyone else and no one seems to know where he would be."

Ms Downie said officers were checking more CCTV footage from central Glasgow in a bid to trace Mr Boyle.

She added: "It's not like him to just go out and stay away overnight, hence the concern from his wife and family."

Anyone who sees Mr Boyle or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
