An appeal has been launched to trace an 86-year-old man with dementia who has gone missing from Milngavie.

Neil McFarlane was last seen at his home in the East Dunbartonshire town at around 6.45pm on Sunday and was later reported missing by his family.

Police say they are growing increasingly concerned for his well-being.

Mr McFarlane is a keen walker and has been known to stay on buses until the end of their routes.

He has previously taken the bus to Balfron in Stirlingshire and Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow.

Sergeant Alan Ferris from Kirkintilloch said: "As time passes, his family and police are becoming increasingly concerned for his well-being.

"Mr McFaralane suffers from dementia and although he is 86 years of age, he is active and is known to walk considerable distances.

"He also uses buses and has previously stayed on them until the end of their route, so he has been located before as far as Balfron and Buchanan Street Bus Station."

He added: "We are currently carrying out searches and enquiries to trace Mr McFarlane and I would urge anyone who may have seen him, or anyone with any information on his whereabouts to contact Kirkintilloch police office through 101.

"I would also ask local residents to check their gardens, or any outbuildings in case he has taken shelter there, and contact police with any information."

Mr McFarlane is around 5ft 9in and was wearing a brown hat with a tweed jacket.
