Christmas trees are good but can you eat them? Well, you could, but it does not come recommended.

Canadian cafe chain Tim Hortons has just launched its festive, limited edition showstopper, the Timbit Tree, on the same day it launched its second Scottish outlet at Silverburn Shopping Centre in Glasgow.

The popular cafe's first venture in Scotland, based on Argyle Street in Glasgow, was met by huge queues overnight ahead of its opening day in June this year.

Marking its first Christmas in the UK, the chain's edible Christmas tree of 60 Timbits is available for £14.99 in its outlets.

Timbits are bite-sized miniatures of the franchise's traditional doughnuts, which it first started producing in the 1970s.

They come in flavours including apple fritter, chocolate glazed, sour cream glazed, honey dip and old-fashioned plain.

For the tree design, the Timbits are stacked on platforms around a gold cone.

A spokeswoman for Tim Hortons said: "The Timbit Tree is the perfect decoration to spruce up any Christmas party this year.

"Whether you are hosting a family gathering or looking for the ultimate treat for your guests this festive period, the edible Timbit not only provides a unique table centrepiece but is stacked high with 60 Christmas Timbits ready for your guests to indulge in."
