Traffic Scotland have launched a live gritter tracker so drivers won't be caught out this winter.

The live tracker shows where gritters have been in the last two hours and allows users to search by location.

The tracker gives the locations of trucks, which have been given amazing names, such as Sir Salter Scott and Gritallica.

New gritters such as Luke Snowwalker and Gritty Gritty Bang Bang have become viral favourites.

With the cold weather coming in fast this weekend, and even some snow forecast for high altitudes, it's a great tool to help keep you safe on the road.

Traffic Scotland said: "Dependent on the forecast weather conditions, up to 122 gritters are deployed to provide precautionary salt treatments to trunk roads. To patrol and provide additional salt treatments, a further 51 gritters are routinely deployed as required.

"The winter fleet for trunk roads has a total of 208 vehicles available for spreading salt and ploughing.

"The remaining gritters are available to provide support to the frontline and patrol vehicles, as well as to cover breakdowns and essential maintenance.

"When severe wintry weather is affecting the whole country, all available vehicles are deployed. "
