A man has been killed after a two-car collision on a rural road in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the B999 Pettymuick to Pitmedden Bridge at around 4.50pm on Friday.

Police confirmed that a male had died as a result of the crash.

The road remains closed as officers continue to deal with the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service all initially attended the scene.

The man's next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a male has died as a result of the earlier road traffic collision on the B999 Pettymuick to Pitmedden Bridge."
