Police are concerned for the welfare of a young child who was seen alone on the A82 in Dumbarton.

At around 12.25pm on Friday, police received several phone calls that a young girl, described as around four years old, was seen alone on the A82 near Barloan roundabout.

The girl is understood to have left the roundabout and walked towards Barlone Place.

She is described as aged around four with shoulder length brown hair and wearing a long green T-shirt and black boots.

Officers attended the scene but there was no sight of the child.

Inspector John Hendry from Dumbarton Police Station: "Officers are looking to trace the parents or guardians of this little girl to confirm that she is safe and well.

"We have no reports of a missing child in the area, and although there is nothing to suggest anything sinister has happened, it is important that we confirm her whereabouts and that she is ok.

"I would urge anyone with information that could assist with our enquiries to please contact Dumbarton Police Station via 101."
