If you go down to Glasgow Airport today be sure of a big surprise...

Because there is a growing collection of teddy bears in lost property anxiously waiting for their owners to come and find them.

There are currently 21 cuddly toys that have been left behind at the airport or on flights and staff are hoping the public will help them in their quest to reunite them with their owners.

From blue elephants to plump owls, airport staff say they have seen a bit of a spike after the summer season with more teddies than usual being handed in.

To try and stop people losing their cuddlies, the airport is launching a new 'teddy tag' for people to write their details on and tie to their toys before getting on flights.

To make sure more teddies don't go astray, the 'Take Care of my Bear' tag can be given out to any child travelling from the airport with a soft toy.

The tags are available at check-in and can be marked with the owner's details.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: "We hope the bears have enjoyed spending koala-ty time at the airport, but their owners must really miss them.

"We hope that somebody will recognise their furry friend and collect them.

"We're just softies really, and we're doing everything we can to make sure more bears don't get mislaid which is why we're introducing our new teddy bear tags," they added.

"We can't bear for any more teddies to go missing and we understand how traumatic it can be for any child and their parents!"

As for those bears still left in their care, airport staff have managed to take a series of mugshots of the lost teddies on the airport luggage carousals in a bid to reunite them with their long lost owners.

If you do see a familiar face in Glasgow Airport's pictures, you can collect him/her from Luggage Point based in the main terminal.
