Galston's local council office has been forced to move due to safety fears at a neighbouring property in the village.

Demolition teams will move in to rip down the Co-op store on Polwarth Street following a six-month dispute between the company and East Ayrshire Council.

The move means residents who rely on the service will have to travel to Galston Library on Henrietta Street.

A council statement read: "We have closed our local office in Galston this morning until further notice.

"We had already planned to relocate temporarily during demolition work on the Co-op building next door, but this has been brought forward following concern over the condition of a ceiling in the back office.

"As always, the safety of our staff and customers is our primary concern which is why we felt it necessary to make this decision today.

"We are currently making arrangements to open a temporary office within Galston Library."
